When I was a young girl I said I wanted to be “a fashioner” when I grew up. Dreams do come true in the most wonderful way: A love of vintage fashion and a lifetime of interest in textiles would come together to inspire me to launch my own small business, Annie Oakland Made.
I have been sewing since a young age, starting with the clothing my grandmother and I made for our dolls. My mother’s hand printed textiles from her college career at UC Davis are treasured possessions. My father, an accomplished blues musician, inspired my love of American roots music and antiques. I am grateful for a family who raised me with a deep appreciation for the arts, as well as style and nostalgia.
Born in Hayward, CA my affinity for art & animals started at an early age. From as early as I can remember I’ve had my hands in the dirt. My upbringing included hunting and fishing, farming, animal husbandry, family roadtrips and an appreciation for nature. These themes reveal themselves in my work, and continue to inspire my urban farming and sewing, and ceramics adventures in East Oakland, CA. I have a BFA in Ceramics from California College of the Arts.
